Eerdmans Hires New Director of Sales: We are pleased to announce that Steven Alderman has joined Eerdmans as our new Director of Sales. As a key member of Eerdmans' management team, Alderman will be responsible for sales to both domestic and foreign religious trade stores, national chains, and distributors. He will oversee the national accounts and wholesalers, manage distribution and inventory, and support the work of subrights agents for Eerdmans' titles. Alderman will also direct the sales team, rights and permissions, special sales, and book club sales. Read more.
Eerdmans Author Chosen for 2009 John Templeton Award for Theological Promise: Congratulations to Alyssa Lyra Pitstick, author of Light in Darkness, who was recently chosen as one of 12 scholars worldwide to receive the 2009 John Templeton Award for Theological Promise – an award that recognizes the 12 best young scholars globally on the basis of their doctoral dissertation. Christianity Today Honors Two Eerdmans Titles: The annual Christianity Today book awards have been announced and two Eerdmans titles have been recognized as "outstanding volumes that shed light on people, events, and ideas that shape evangelical life, thought, and mission." It is our pleasure to report that Stories with Intent by Klyne R. Snodgrass was chosen as the winner in the Biblical Studies category and Tell It Slant by Eugene H. 2009 ALA Youth Media Awards Announced, Two EBYR Titles Receive Prestigious Honors: The American Library Association (ALA) has announced the top books, videos, and audiobooks for children and young adults—including the Caldecott, King, Newbery, Schneider Family, and Batchelder awards—at its Midwinter Meeting in Denver. Among the selections for award winners and honor books were A River of Words, and Garmann's Summer, two books from Eerdmans Books for Young Readers. Read More
Shortlist for Michael Ramsey Prize Announced, Three of five finalists are Eerdmans titles: The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, has announced the shortlist for the 2009 Michael Ramsey Prize (MRP). Eerdmans is proud to have three titles chosen for this distinguished honor. The prize will be awarded in May at the Guardian Hay Festival – an annual literature festival held in Hay-on-Wye, Wales. Cooperative Children's Book Center Selects EBYR Title for Honor Award: A River of Words written by Jen Bryant and illustrated by Melissa Sweet, was recently selected as an honor book for the 2009 Charlotte Zolotow Award, an award for outstanding writing in a picture book for children, given by the Cooperative Children's Book Center, a library of the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Author Richard John Neuhaus Passes Away: With great sadness, Eerdmans notes the passing of our longtime author and friend Father Richard John Neuhaus, who died on January 8, 2009. In the twenty-five years of our association, Eerdmans was privileged to publish many books written or edited by Neuhaus, most notably The Naked Public Square, a seminal study of religion and democracy in the United States, which became the jumping off point for subsequent discussion of this important topic.
Eerdmans Author Passes Away: William C. Placher, the LaFollete Distinguished Professor in the Humanities at Wabash College, has passed away at the age of 60. A popular professor at Wabash for thirty-three years, Placher was author or editor of more than a dozen books, including Callings: Twenty Centuries of Christian Wisdom on Vocation.
Leadership Book Awards: Leadership Journal has announced the titles for the 2008 Leadership Book Awards, which honor the ten books of 2008 deemed most valuable for church leaders. Congratulations to Paul Louis Metzger, author of Consuming Jesus, and Eugene Peterson, author of Eat This Book, for being among this year’s selections.
